Kids find Alexa very fascinating and it’s quite obvious that they will play with the technology endlessly. It’s a great piece of tech for sure. But, it can invite trouble if you don’t restrict its range of features, especially to make it safer for your kids.

The best thing about Alexa is that you can set up parental controls as you do on other smart devices. There’s a lot to cover here in this post, so we will quickly jump on to the part where you can learn how to set up Alexa for your kids. Once we are done with that, we will share several Alexa skills and commands useful for your kids. Let’s get started!

How to Set Up Your Alexa for Kids?

Here’s how you can make your Alexa device kid-friendly. You may follow these steps as we go along.

1.   Voice Purchasing

Setting up voice purchasing is important so that you don’t end up getting random packages from Amazon now and then. Kids might make a purchase unknowingly and cause a dent in your bank balance. Here’s how you can manipulate voice purchasing.

  • Access the Alexa App on your phone
  • Once you are on the home screen, tap on the ‘More’ tab
  • Go to ‘Settings’ and tap on ‘Account Settings’
  • Now tap on ‘Voice Purchasing’
  • You must see a toggle switch here. Tap on the toggle to switch on/off Voice Purchasing.
  • Now tap on ‘Purchase Confirmation’
  • Here, you can enable or disable ‘Purchase Confirmation’
  • Do the same with ‘Kids Skills Purchasing’
  • Lastly, toggle on or off the ‘Purchases Require Approval’ option.

You will also have enough security options like enable or disable voice purchasing, set up voice purchasing passcode, and more. Make sure you go through them as well.

2.   Music Settings

You don’t want your kids to listen and consume explicit content. It is highly recommended that you put filters over the audio content available on Amazon. There’s a lot of content on Amazon. Therefore, you have to ensure proper Communications and Do Not Disturb controls before your kids start using Alexa. It is quite easy to set up filters. Let’s find out how.

  • Firstly, you need to make Alexa private. To find out how much access Alexa has, you should tap on ‘Alexa Privacy’ and check the data Amazon is collecting off your device. Make good decisions while changing your privacy settings.
  • Next, you will have to ensure kids don’t consume explicit content. To do that, tap on the ‘Music & Podcasts’ option in the Settings menu. This is where you can control the music services connected to your Alexa device.
  • Now, turn on or off the ‘Explicit Filter’. This will keep your kids away from anything they shouldn’t be listening to. You are all set to pass on the device to your kids.

3.   Chompers

Make teeth time fun with Chompers! As a parent, we often struggle with making our kids brush teeth every day. How about making the brushing time more fun?
